So this is how the story goes, we now have two Apple TV’s in our house. We used to use an Xbox 360 in the bedroom to watch Netflix, It is an older Xbox 360 and the wireless connection isn’t so great. So what would happen is that it would wirelessly drop every so often. Sometimes it would last a whole movie, sometimes it would only last ten minutes. This is extremely frustrating and the only option would be to setup a wired line. This is 2011 (almost 2012), who does that anymore. So as a test and to see what the apple tv was about, I purchased one and set it up in the bedroom to see how it would fair. Three things I have noticed so far with the apple tv:

It is way easier to navigate than the Xbox to watch a Netflix movie.

It doesn’t cost a monthly fee to use.

It hasn’t dropped a connection once.

I would also like it to be our media center of sorts. I would like to get rid of our DVD’s, they take up a lot of space. Why can’t they just be like mp3′s, hidden. So awhile back I started to transfer my dvd’s onto my Windows XP computer. I left them as the full transfer until I found a good solution. I then converted one of the dvd’s using handbrake into the apple tv 2 selection and started to watch the video. Perfect solution for a media center for me. So I have converted all my DVD’s into said format.

Now, we wanted to watch something in the front room and I said hey. They Apple TV is so small, I can just unplug it and plug it into the front room tv. Boom, for some reasons there were issues with the WiFi. It just wouldn’t recognize the WiFi without switching to another WiFi and then switching back. This was extremely annoying issue. The wife kept saying, why don’t we just buy another one, over and over again. So I went out and bought a second Apple TV, because it’s so cheap and it is so easy to setup and leave there anyways.

Now with iCloud/iMatch the computer doesn’t need to be left on for us to play music. Even better. We were thinking of getting a TV for our second bedroom, and when/if that happens I will get an Apple TV for it also. You know for the guests.

Cadet: “There’s four of us and one of you”
Kirk: “Well, get some extra guys and then it’ll be a fair fight.”

I lost my music Hard Drive once in my life. It was extremely sad, I had some of the stuff on cd’s, but it wasn’t everything. So every once and awhile I will look for an album or an artist and they won’t be there, and it will make me sad. Well, I just go on iTunes and hope that they are on there and buy the CD.

So just now, I was thinking about the artist μ-Ziq, before today I had known nothing about him. Well either way thats not the point, I had some μ-Ziq in my iTunes, And I was very happy about that. Then I though, What is the oldest song in my iTunes library. Well thats what you see above. That is probably around the time that I lost my Hard Drive and was downloading music off of mp3 sites. The first four songs added to my iTunes were:
“Like Humans Do (radio edit)” By David Byrne, Added on 9/16/2006 5:20 PM
“Yours to Keep (Featuring Neneh Cherry)” By Teddybears, Added on 9/16/2006 5:21 PM
“She Can Do What She Wants” By Field Music, Added on 9/28/2006 11:22 AM
“Robo” By How I Became The Bomb, Added on 9/28/2006 11:22AM

Out of those four Bands, I only really listen to How I Became The Bomb. On 11/18/2006 is when I started to add music from my collection.

Update: “She Can Do What She Wants” By Field Music is actually “Kneel Before Zod” – How I Became The Bomb.

So, he tells me about this book and it sounds interesting, So im sold. I go to Amazon, see how much it is $17.96, not to bad, I need to get some other books anyways, so I will get free shipping with my order. Then I think, Well shit why don’t I get it from the Apple Store, $18.99! Really? Thats the cost it would be if i had to pay for shipping. And then Amazon has it the Kindle Edition for only $9.99, I ended up doing that.

Oh and also, the book cover looks awful. Why didn’t they use the real book cover.

I ordered my DODO Case for my iPad the second I was getting the 3g 64gig version. It took over two months for it to arrive but I am happy to say that it exceeds my expectation of it.

Right when it comes out of the box.

Fits the iPad 3g perfectly.

I was afraid I would have to shave it down so the power cord would fit. But apparently this is version two of the DODO case.

Looks like a book, no idea that it is an iPad. Awesome, and it does a better job of protecting the iPad than the Apple iPad holder. This feels much more sturdier.

I woke up this morning thinking about how I wish I had my iPad already. Actually, I went to sleep last night thinking about the same thing. I had just finished my book and wasn’t really sleepy yet and wanted to read something else. I didn’t have another book to read on my bedside table. And I wasn’t going to get up and find an old book to read again. That would have awaken me for sure. So I decided to just read all the extra’s that are in a book, when it was printed, who printed it, the god awe full reviews (Who reads those anyways?) Thats when I had the thought, I wish I had my iPad right now. I could either find another book to buy in the online bookstore, Or I could read how the Lakeshow did last night. And went to sleep.

As I awoke I thought about how I didn’t want to wake up Erin and let her sleep a little bit. I thought about the ways that we could use an iPad in the house. I thought about how when it wasn’t in use it could be showing the latest pictures I had taken. Or just even a slideshow of pictures from flickr or facebook. I would love it if would just go through all the pictures that I have Favorited in flickr. I would build a frame for it, so it slides in and out easily and charges while in there. It would have a fancy frame.

Or I was thinking that I would mount it into the kitchen, and use it as our primary to do list and Calendar. I asked Erin about this when she woke up and said, that would be great, I would look at the Calendar and see who’s birthday it was this week. And I responded, and yes you could add events to it from your NON iPhone, or while you are at work. And I could add events from my iPhone or while I am at work. You could even add events while looking at it. We could even have a dynamic to do list, or groceries list. Where we are out of something, you add it on the iPad and when we go grocery shopping, I could look up what we are missing on my iPhone.

Then I thought about how I always had my iPad at the bedside table and didn’t have to worry about getting up and grabbing it from the kitchen or in the front room. I know that there are probably cheaper solutions for this, but for this I know that I could write my own application or website to do the things that I want to do specifically. And that is what makes it more intriguing to me as a whole. For the price point to do what I want to, Know how to do, It is justified.

I already ordered my iPad 32gb 3g last week. I will wait to see how I use it in my life to make any more decisions.

My list of five things that suck about the iphone go like this:

1. I am not waking up at 830 to drive down to the apple store to wait in line to get an iphone.
2. OK, maybe i will tomorrow.
3. But I am going to have to really think about it.
4. Fine i will wait in line for it.
5. No Cut and Paste.

If you don’t know safari was just released for windows. Just go to apples website and go get it. But i have major qualms with it:

1. It is too pretty for windows. The text is so clean looking!
2. The close window button is on the right side! Ahhhh, I am used to it being on the left side like a mac program should be.
3. It is just to pretty looking for windows. It should not be so pretty. Look at it, it looks so nice.
4. It runs really nice on windows. If it ever crashes on me I will cry.
5. It doesn’t have firebug installed for it.

Ya, no real qualms. Just awesome, where is iphoto, where is imovie, where is mail?

I like the idea behind . But i don’t think i can get to using it. I think i might be to old school, and i would figure that the new kids would start using it.

I like using bbedit, transmit and notepad2.exe, Those are the programs that i use to do web design. Those programs are small, open up quick and i have no problems with them ever crashing. I am not saying that coda is a bloated fat program. I just don’t trust it right now. I like the simplicity of those programs.

Eh, im just an old fart.

This is a call out to all Macintosh OS X users out there. Why do you still use stuffit?

There was a reason back in the days of Mac OS 9 that you needed stuffit. But now that OS X includes its own “archiving” program. There is no need for stuffit anymore. Zip is a valid way to archive things and mostly every computer will be able to open it.

If you don’t know how to zip something in Mac OS X here is a quick tutorial:
1. Find the file/folder that you want to zip.
2. Right click on the file/folder.
3. Select create archive of…
4. Done.

I know stuffit has a free program of its Stuffit Deluxe program, but i don’t understand why they are still in business.

I don't use an rss reader, i don't even have one installed on my computer. I don't know if it is because rss wasn't around when i started browsing the web. Or the fact that i liked nicely designed websites. I am not here to tell you what rss is, do that on your own time. I am here to tell you that i browse the same websites through safari with its bookmarks feature. I put the bookmarks into folders on in the bookmarks bar, i click check the Auto-Click. I have about 12 folders up on top with about 20-30 links in each folder. Check out the picture below on how i do this and click on the picture below for a bigger picture.
